If you're looking for a great historical and even family orientated activity.. You just might want to check out the West Penn Trail in Pennsylvania. The trail is a 17 mile long trail from Blairsville, PA to Saltsburg, PA that you can choose to hike or even go for a bicycle ride through it.

The West Penn Trail is a multi-use trail that can take you back in time with its old sections of the PA railroad tunnels, sights along the Conemaugh River, Conemaugh Dam and wildlife along the way! It is a volunteered maintained trail that is apart of the old Portage Railroad line that ran from 1830-1864 time period.

The trail allows a different variety that seems to strike just about anyone's interest of walking, hiking, running, bicycling off and on pavement, Wild life observation, dog friendly on leash, there are even portions of the trail that's even wheel chair accessible, hunting in areas and even fishing.

One little side adventure you can partake in while on the trail is, Geocaching. There are numerous geocaching locations that you can find along the way, so make sure to bring a pen to write a note down if you want or a object to leave behind for the next Geocachers!

It doesn't matter what time of the year it is, the trail is open all year around! You can see the beautiful sights bundled up in the winter time, while the leaves are changing during spring or fall, in the summer warmth, or maybe even a rain coat if you happen to get caught up in a little rain storm.

We hope you enjoyed a little glimpse of the West Penn Trail and maybe you can experience it all yourself if you have not already!

Happy Travels!
